Oak Street Po-Boy Fest names 2016 winners
Hungry judges were ready to dig into the 10th annual Oak Street Po-Boy Festival when it kicked off Sunday (Oct. 23) morning at 10 a.m.
Temperatures hovered around 70, with clear blue skies over the more than 30 vendors, who set up deep-fryers, sliced bread, shredded lettuce and ran po-boy assembly lines to create 50 different sandwiches -- all competing to see who would be the best in each category.
The panel of judges chose the best po-boys in six categories. Check out the complete list here:
• Best Beef Po-Boy
Blue Oak BBQ -- Pastrami Brisket
• Best Oyster Po-Boy
Red Fish Grill -- Barbecued Oyster
• Best Pork Po-Boy
Bratz Y'All -- Pork Schnitzel
• Best Sausage Po-Boy
Bratz Y'All -- Nuernberger
• Best Seafood Po-Boy
Ajun Cajun -- Soft Shell Crab
• Best Shrimp Po-Boy
Red Fish Grill -- Shrimp and Pimento Cheese
This year, the festival moved its date to late October to try to avoid the cold weather of late November.
Hungry? The festival continues until 8 p.m., so there is plenty of time to head to Carrollton and enjoy a winning po-boy or another favorite, listen to music and explore the art market, which closes at 6 p.m.
